Jaybird Freedom-JF3 Wireless Bluetooth Headset

20130112-185956.jpg

I have been using the Jaybird Freedom JF3 headset for walking and running for over 6 months. I can’t recommend these highly enough. The sound is great and the fit is good, they come with a sets of ear loops and inner ear securement methods. I use the outer ear loops. They come with 3 different types of inner ear bud, depending on your ear cannel size, I prefer the smaller size as it allows me to hear the surrounding sounds. They sell for $99.99 They offer 2 new updated models. The Freedom Sprint 129.99 and the Bluebird X Micro 169.99 You can find out more by visiting http://www.jaybirdgear.com/

I bought a set of these for my wife also. Not long after, they stopped charging. Months later I contact Jaybird customer support and after several email exchanges they had me mail the defective headset back and soon after we received a brand new headset.

Remember to always be careful when wearing earbuds, beware of your surroundings. Watch for traffic, when running always run against traffic so you can see approaching vehicles and any distracted drivers.

Christmas Dash 5K 2012

20130112-175326.jpg

I ran the Christmas Dash 5K my 3rd official run. It was a very cold December morning, I arrived early at 7AM as I had not pre-registered not knowing if I would have to work that day. After stand around in the very cold morning, I got off to a slow start. I feel I had a pretty good run regardless. Time 30:40 Pace 09:56. (5K is 3.1 miles)

Turkey Trot 2012 6 Mile Run

My 2nd major run was the 2012 Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot, Redding Ca. A six mile run on the Sacramento River Trail. My finish time was 01:04:59 a 10:45 minutes/mile pace. The morning started off cold and half way through the run it warmed up a bit, I learned a lesson about layering my clothing, you need to layer backwards. Short sleeve on the inside long sleeve on the outside, so you can strip the warmer clothes off on the move. I didn’t do that and had to stop to swap to my lighter layer. I also learned to carry water with me on my runs. On shorter runs 3 miles or less I can run without water, but its just easier to carry some with me.

I’ve been running 4-5 days a week with 6 miles as my longest run.

Again, sorry it took so long to post I’ve been a bit lazy about my blog lately, I’ll try to do better…

Vacation Diet WIN

This vacation turned out much better than the last. August 30th-September 8th. My weight at the end was 204, much better than the our last trip. Durning this vacation I completed a 5K run and ran just about everyday. I watched what I ate a bit more than last time. I stayed away from the daily Ice cream and only had a few. I did drink a lot of Beer with my brother-in-law Bill (Coors Light) and we enjoyed our yearly trip to Hooters. I think I sweated out most of the beer on my runs in the Florida humidity.

First 5K

September 1, 2012

20120902-092826.jpg

Since we were coming to Florida for vacation, I signed up for a 5K race in Naples, FL.
Golf Coast Runners, Pilot Club/John Clay 5K

Running on my own, I ran a 5K in about 38-39 minute. At the event, I posted a 34:49.5, it was a very flat course, It was pretty hot and the humidity was high also. There were 481 runners and I crossed the line 424, finishing 8th in my age group. There were runners of all ages from very young kids to runners in their 80’s. One lady, 74 finished seconds after me and was actually ahead of me most of the race! I felt really good about my race and finish considering I have only been running about a month.

Looking forward to my next run!

Diet Update August 19th

August 19, 2012 Weight 201.7 Body Fat 25.9 Only 4 more pounds to go to be at pre-vacation weight.

Run/Walk 13.62 Cycling 13.04 And Running 3.14 miles in 39 minutes on Sunday.

Yes I finally ran or jogged, I’ll call it running, straight through without stopping a 5K distance. Then I walked the rest of the way to Starbuck’s and home for another 3.82 miles. Then to church and shopping for a couple hours. Man were my legs tired, Monday is my usual rest day and I had a muscle cramp in my right calf most of the day. I ran again Tuesday my legs felt good, but I still have a leg cramp or tight muscle as I write this, not too bad though. I will probably rest again tomorrow. We are heading to Florida at the end of the month for our next vacation. I plan on keeping up with my running and may even join a 5K run in Naples on September 1st.
