Vacation Diet WIN

This vacation turned out much better than the last. August 30th-September 8th. My weight at the end was 204, much better than the our last trip. Durning this vacation I completed a 5K run and ran just about everyday. I watched what I ate a bit more than last time. I stayed away from the daily Ice cream and only had a few. I did drink a lot of Beer with my brother-in-law Bill (Coors Light) and we enjoyed our yearly trip to Hooters. I think I sweated out most of the beer on my runs in the Florida humidity.

Sorry it took so long to post I’ve been a bit lazy about my blog lately, I’ll try to do better…

First 5K

Since we were coming to Florida for vacation, I signed up for a 5K race in Naples, FL.
Golf Coast Runners, Pilot Club/John Clay 5K

Running on my own, I ran a 5K in about 38-39 minute. At the event, I posted a 34:49.5, it was a very flat course, It was pretty hot and the humidity was high also. There were 481 runners and I crossed the line 424, finishing 8th in my age group. There were runners of all ages from very young kids to runners in their 80’s. One lady, 74 finished seconds after me and was actually ahead of me most of the race! I felt really good about my race and finish considering I have only been running about a month.

Diet Update August 19th

August 19, 2012 Weight 201.7 Body Fat 25.9 Only 4 more pounds to go to be at pre-vacation weight.

Run/Walk 13.62 Cycling 13.04 And Running 3.14 miles in 39 minutes on Sunday.

Yes I finally ran or jogged, I’ll call it running, straight through without stopping a 5K distance. Then I walked the rest of the way to Starbuck’s and home for another 3.82 miles. Then to church and shopping for a couple hours. Man were my legs tired, Monday is my usual rest day and I had a muscle cramp in my right calf most of the day. I ran again Tuesday my legs felt good, but I still have a leg cramp or tight muscle as I write this, not too bad though. I will probably rest again tomorrow. We are heading to Florida at the end of the month for our next vacation. I plan on keeping up with my running and may even join a 5K run in Naples on September 1st.

Vacation Diet Fail

August 4th- 11th 2012 Ending weight 210 That’s right I gained 12 pounds in one week!

We spent Saturday Traveling with the Grandkids, down to southern California. On Sunday we took a boat trip to Santa Catalina Island, we had a great time the ride was very smooth. We took a few sightseeing tours and got some walking exercise. After the boat ride back we headed for Anaheim for a couple days at the happiest place on earth. Day 1 we had a fun but hot day at California Adventure, followed by a long hot day at Disneyland. Both days involved plenty of walking and standing waiting in line for rides. Day 2 our FitBit pedometer said over 28,000 steps. Needless to say at the end of both days, our feet and bodies were very tired. Wednesday we head to Hemet to visit my Mom and get a few days of R&R. We headed out Thursday PM for Hollywood and spent Friday at Universal Studio’s for another awesome day of fun. That night we made it back over the Grapevine and stayed at Wheeler Ridge cutting down our driver home on Saturday…

All I can says is we had fun and I ate way too much food. Including Burgers, Fries, Ice Cream and chicken strips. We also ate a few meals at Restaurants such as Chili’s and Hard Rock Cafe. I’m sure there was way to much salt and less water consumed. Plus helping everyone else clean their plates too.

I was only able to exercise one day while at Mom’s house. I managed to get my Run/Walk in.
I also did some Elliptical on Sunday as It was way too hot to do anything by the time I got out of bed. Back to work and back to exercising…

I got messed up by not updating weekly, so from now on I will post by date at my week start. So every Monday I hope to report going forward.

New Bicycle

As part of my Cross Training, I started riding my bike. On my first ride my right arm and hand was getting numb. By the end of my ride my hand was very numb and I could hardly shift. After looking up this condition as related to riding a bike, it pointed improper posture and ride form. I went to my local bike shop and found out my frame was way to small for me 17.5 inches. Needless to say, I needed an upgrade. I tried a 21 inch Specialized Hardrock with 29 inch tires. Wow it was so easy to pedal and a very smooth ride. I took the bike out for about a 12 mile ride, it was great and I road up a very steep path. The low gear and the large tires made the steep hill easy. I still had some numbness but not nearly as bad, I may have some issue with my wrist that’s causing the problem.

Diet Update Week 10

Week 10 July 9, 2012 Weight 205 Body Fat 28.5

This week I chose to eat more calories and maintained my weight from last week.

Walking 0 this week I started a Run/Walk program this week as well as some cross training.
Run/Walk 30 seconds/3 minutes 30 seconds then a cool down walk, I did s 2 days then swapped to 45 seconds/ 2 minutes 15 seconds. Total mileage 12.37
Elliptical trailer on Saturday for 40 minutes, tougher than I thought want to quit after 10 minutes, but I work threw it.
Bicycle ride on Sunday also wanted to quit after 10 minutes. Tufted it out and road for 1 hour 10 minutes 10.22 miles. My right arm and wrist got very numb while riding.
