Since we were coming to Florida for vacation, I signed up for a 5K race in Naples, FL.
Golf Coast Runners, Pilot Club/John Clay 5K

Running on my own, I ran a 5K in about 38-39 minute. At the event, I posted a 34:49.5, it was a very flat course, It was pretty hot and the humidity was high also. There were 481 runners and I crossed the line 424, finishing 8th in my age group. There were runners of all ages from very young kids to runners in their 80’s. One lady, 74 finished seconds after me and was actually ahead of me most of the race! I felt really good about my race and finish considering I have only been running about a month.

Looking forward to my next run!

  1. Good job! My first 5K was 48 min. give or take. Was just getting into running to help after a long illness. I had to power walk most of it. But I felt so good anyway. Yeah, I came in last but I was as happy as if I had come in first! Keep it up! Is there a Boston in the future? 🙂

  2. GRRRRREAT RACE, RICH!!!!!
I suspect you ate better this vacation, knowing you’d be running that 5K race?
A fabulous day along I-90 in Montana for me today – got a wonderful hour run off exit 350, running along the frontage road, wandering near the Yellowstone River. Tomorrow get to run in Sheridan WY; the Sheridan College has an indoor, quarter mile track open all year, free of charge, to anybody who wants to run or walk. Will be able to park the big rig on the Albertson grocery store/ Walmart Supercenter parking lot in Sheridan …. so I’ll be able to get great produce and food for the next couple of days. The most common complaint I hear from drivers calling into radio programs is: it’s SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO hard to exercise and eat well on the road. Bullshit. A little planning and I NEVER lack for a good grocery store I can park at, and a place to get in a good hour of exercise … even if I have to drive a full 11 hours during my 14hr day.
Makes my day to read about your great progress!! Randolph Proksch

  3. Thanks Randolph for your great and supportive comments… I’m trying to eat better this time but not making any promises (hehe) I have been drinking some beer with my Bro-in-law. But I have been running everyday, even in the high humidity… Be safe out there…

  4. Congrats on the great finish! I ran my first 5K in April 2011 and have since ran several 5K & 10K races. I’m running my first half on Oct 27 & another two weeks later. Keep up the great work!

I agree with Randolph. I drive too and I don’t have any problem finding healthy food to eat. I have tried new foods over the last couple of years and feel so much better.

    Have a great day!

  5. Hi Rich,
I noticed your web address on the side of your truck last evening. My brother, Scott had to borrow it while you’re on vacation, and his being in the shop. We haven’t seen each other in well over a year and it was a wonderful surprise to get his call telling me he was in town. We had a nice visit and enjoyed a good dinner. While, he didn’t get to stay long, any time I get to spend with my family is a wonderful gift.

BTW – Congrats on the race! Keep up the good work!
    Shelly
